Reactions to the Adrian Peterson Child Abuse Case

NFL player Adrian Peterson admitted using a wooden stick (switch) to discipline his 4-year-old son. He is facing a felony charge of child abuse. The Minnesota Vikings have reconsidered their decision to allow Peterson to play and are benching him indefinitely while he goes through the legal process.

Mental Health Counselor Lynne Shine of Audubon Counseling was interviewed for a recent news segment by WIVB News 4 Buffalo, NY.  Shine says it’s important there are repercussions for Peterson’s actions, especially because he’s a public figure.

“From this you have to recognize behavior equals consequences, even if you’re trying to give a consequence to a child,” said Shine. “What’s really happening is, as the adult, he needs consequences too for his behavior because it was out-of-control behavior.”
