Modern life is full if demands and stress is so common it has become a way of life. Stress in small doses is not bad, but when someone is constantly running and struggling to balance work and home or one is very stressed at work, your mind and body pay the price. Stress can be caused not only by work but by family or relationship problems or major life changes. Symptoms of stress include memory problems. inability to concentrate, poor judgment, moodiness, worrying, short temper, racing thoughts, agitation, feelings of loneliness, aches and pains, decreased sex drive, frequent illness, increased alcohol use and negative thinking.
Treatment includes psychotherapy to learn to manage stress and learn how to relieve it. Also helpful are relaxation exercises and cognitive restructuring.
